The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued an

* Airport Weather Warning for Ground Operations at: Boston Logan Airport

* Until 415 PM EST Thursday

* The Following Weather Hazards Are Expected: Sustained North wind of 27 knots or greater. North wind gusts 40 knots or higher. Snowfall rates of one inch per hour or greater.

* Onset of inch per hour snow is estimated at 8 to 10 AM EST.

* Ending of the inch per hour snow is estimated at 4 PM EST.

Blizzard Warning

From 09:41am EST, Jan 04 2018 until 07:00pm EST, Jan 04 2018

...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST THIS EVENING... ...WIND CHILL WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY EVENING THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected with blowing an drifting snow. Very cold wind chills possible. Travel will be very dangerous to impossible. Expect damage to trees and power lines as well. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 14 inches, with localized amounts up to 16 inches, are expected. Wind chills could range from 10 below zero to 20 below zero.

* WHERE...Eastern and southeastern Massachusetts and southern Rhode Island.

* WHEN...For the Blizzard Warning, through 7 PM EST this evening. For the Wind Chill Watch, from Friday evening through Saturday afternoon.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds gusting as high as 65 mph will cause whiteout conditions in blowing snow. Significant drifting of the snow is likely. Cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

A Wind Chill Watch means there is the potential for a combination of very cold air and the wind to create dangerously low wind chill values. Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation.

Coastal Flood Warning

From 11:00am EST, Jan 04 2018 until 04:00pm EST, Jan 04 2018

...COASTAL FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM EST THIS AFTERNOON...

* LOCATION...MASSACHUSETTS EAST COAST FOR EAST AND NORTH FACING SHORELINES.

* TIDAL DEPARTURE...AROUND 2.5 FEET NORTH OF BOSTON AND 2.5 TO 3 FEET SOUTH OF BOSTON...EXCEPT UP TO 3.5 FEET SANDWICH TO DENNIS.

* TIMING...WITHIN A FEW HOURS OF THE EARLY AFTERNOON HIGH TIDE. WATER MAY BE VERY SLOW TO RECEDE AFTER THE HIGH TIDE.

* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...MODERATE TO MAJOR IMPACTS ARE LIKELY. MOST SEVERE IMPACTS ARE LIKELY ALONG THE COAST FROM HULL TO PLYMOUTH AND FROM SANDWICH TO DENNIS. THERE WILL BE WIDESPREAD FLOODING OF VULNERABLE SHORE ROADS AND BASEMENTS. A FEW LOW SPOTS COULD BE INUNDATED UP TO 6 FEET. WAVES ON TOP OF THE HIGH WATER LEVELS WILL LIKELY DAMAGE VULNERABLE DECKS, STAIRS, AND DOCKS. VULNERABLE HOMES AND BUSINESSES RIGHT ALONG THE WATER MAY SUSTAIN DAMAGE. IN A FEW SPOTS, SEA ICE CHUNKS MAY EXACERBATE DAMAGE TO STRUCTURES AND ROADS ALONG THE SHORE. SOME NEIGHBORHOODS, ESPECIALLY ALONG THE PLYMOUTH COUNTY COAST, WILL LIKELY BE ISOLATED FOR A TIME ABOUT THE HIGH TIDE. FREEZING SPRAY MAY ACCRETE ALONG STRUCTURES AT THE SHORELINE... AND ANY STANDING WATER THAT IS SLOW TO DRAIN AFTER THE HIGH TIDE WILL FREEZE.

* SHORELINE IMPACTS...MODERATE TO SEVERE EROSION WILL OCCUR ALONG EXPOSED MASSACHUSETTS EAST AND NORTH FACING SHORELINES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING IS ISSUED WHEN MODERATE OR MAJOR COASTAL FLOODING IS EXPECTED. MODERATE COASTAL FLOODING PRODUCES WIDESPREAD FLOODING OF VULNERABLE SHORE ROADS AND/OR BASEMENTS DUE TO THE HEIGHT OF THE STORM TIDE AND/OR WAVE ACTION. NUMEROUS ROAD CLOSURES ARE NEEDED. MAJOR COASTAL FLOODING IS CONSIDERED SEVERE ENOUGH TO CAUSE AT LEAST SCATTERED STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO VULNERABLE HOMES IN ADDITION TO WIDESPREAD FLOODING OF SHORE ROADS AND/OR BASEMENTS. SOME SHORE ROADS WILL HAVE WASHOUTS SEVERE ENOUGH TO BE LIFE-THREATENING IF ONE ATTEMPTED TO CROSS ON FOOT OR BY VEHICLE.
